Mental Health Awareness in Quesnel had a great turn out. Reducing the stigma that surrounds those with mental illness is only possible through shared experiences and education. The awareness week was the perfect time to help get the message out. Draws, free fruit, cookies and stacks of information made their way out to the public.

Thank you Quesnel!

Thank you Quesnel!

The volunteers and I helped educate and hand out pamphlets about the myths of mental illness. How do you help someone with a mental illness? What kind of support is needed from the community to help those with a mental illness feel comfortable speaking out and seeking help? These were some of the questions that, with the help of Charmaine, who shared her own story of her battle with mental illness, were answered. This event was made possible and wildly successful by the Quesnel Mental Health Advisory Committee (also known as the Wellness Way).

Through our efforts we were able to reach hundreds of people and had a town celebrity attend the event. A phenomenal physician, with over 50 years of practice received an achievement award for his service and good deeds. Congratulations Dr. Havens the best to you in your future endeavors and a huge thank you for your dedication to the community of Quesnel. Small steps to a big change.
